Oatmeal, Dairy Free!
Oatmeal seems like an easy thing to make and it is. We have it just about every morning. At one time, I was trying to cut out milk from my diet. I tried using water and found the taste was so bland I thought it would never work. I stumbled across the idea of adding salt to my oatmeal. After that I never felt I needed to use milk again.
At times I almost feel like the oats and water with the sugar and salt makes its own Oat Milk. Usually I am drinking the last of my bowl if I added too much water. Normally, I do not measure any of this. Since I make it most mornings, I just put water in my bowl for a three count, I add the oats till they fill about 3/4ths of the water (a small portion of oats above the water but most under the water), three turns of my salt grinder, and a good splash of my maple syrup. Why mess up measuring spoons when you don’t have to!
Recipe:
1/2 C Oats (we use Quaker Oats Old Fashion from Costco)
3/4 C water
1/8 tsp salt*
2 tsp maple syrup (or brown sugar)*
*adjust to your taste
Directions:
Microwave the water in a microwave safe bowl for 1 minute.
Add the 3/4 cup of oats, sweetner of your choice, and salt
I end up letting mine sit for 10 minutes while I check my email.
If necessary (because I got distracted too long) I microwave for an additional 30 seconds.
Now you have a delicious bowl of dairy free oatmeal to enjoy!
